| Dal lake: 8x4 km and has a total area of 26 square
Kms. Dal lake has three islands: Rop Lankh
( char chinari), Sona Lankh and Nehru park. Nigeen Lak: It is 9 km from Dal gate also known as diamond lake. It has some of the most luxurious deluxe house boats. Manasbal Lake: Manas ‘Mountains’ and bal ‘lake’ deepest lake in Kashmir 32 km from Sgr.off the Sonamarg Ganderbal road 4 by 2 km wide lake is famous for water nuts , Lotus roots, Nadru and lotus flowers that blossom in early July. Most houseboats on the Dal are situated in long straggling rows, some face the Boulevard, Srinagar's most exciting address, while others are situated singly or in groups of two and three. The location of a houseboat tells us nothing about its class, but before checking into one, there are a few factors which you may like to consider. A honeymoon couple may want to be away from it all, and may choose a houseboat with few, if any, close neighbours. To them it will be an advantage to stay in the interior of the lake, accessible by a half hour long Shikara ride. A family with young children on the other hand may find themselves better served in an area which overlooks the Boulevard where a crossing takes just five minutes. |
Stay in a floating hotel: The valley of Kashmir is most fascinating and for those who love fishing, the life becomes more interesting. Houseboats are moored to the banks of the river Jhelum, Dal and Nigin lakes. These "floating houses" are known for their comfort and convenience. The boats are beautifully furnished and the rooms have glass windows, crockery, cutlery, modern appliances, electricity, cable TV and radios are provided. A houseboat of average size has two living rooms, and two or three bedrooms with attached bathrooms, which in most cases are provided with hot and cold running water. Every houseboat has a separate Shikara for crossing and an attached kitchen-boat, which also serves as quarters for servants. Most of the houseboats have extensive traces with gardens, and one can have a sunbath or enjoy a cool breeze under the shade of small canopy in comfortable easy chair. Life in houseboats is not only comfortable but enjoyable too because the boat can easily be moved about and moored at a site commanding an ideal view in or around Srinagar. All houseboats are registered with the Tourist Department of the Jammu and Kashmir Government. | |
