| Phalgham: A two hours drive from Srinagar, at an altitude
of 2000 m above the see level. Shepherd’s
village with Breathtaking views. This place
is the starting point of Amarnath yatra (Sheeshnag)
25.6 km from Phalgham.During the month of
Sawan, an ice stalagmite forms a natural
shiving which waxes and wanes with the phases
of moon. Pahalgam has Balasaran, tulian Lake,
Mamal T.emple, Phrislan, Aru – famous for
film shooting. Besides this through the way
from Sgr- to Phalgham there is Mattan temple,
Ashi Muqam, Awantipur temples, sun temple
Martand, Shesh Nag, Panchtarni temple and
apart Phalgham is Kokernag, Verinag, Shikargah,
Achabal, Kounsarnag, Daksum etc. Gulmarg: “Meadow 0f flowers” Alt 2730 mts 52 kms from Srinagar. Boasts the world’s highest 18 hole gulf course, all around are snow capped mountains, and on a clear day you can see the Nanga Parbat in one direction and Srinagar in another. Another highest in the world in Gulmarg is Gandola cable car. The 1st phase is 3045 mts leads upwards to Khilanmarg Kangori and snow springs. The 2nd phase 4060 mts connects to Apharwat. Here lies Alphather lake which remains frozen till late June. Gulmarg has a breath taking scenic beauty with allied places like Allapather Lake, Tangmarg and Ziarat Baba Reshi. Sonamarg: Alt 3000 mts 87 kms from Srinagar (Meadow of Gold). It is the point of a major track passing several mountain Lakes Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Gangabal . One trek leads all the way to the amaranth cave. Another importance for Sonamarg is that it is the last halt from Kashmir side for drive from Srinagar to Leh. Besides there are some famous places like Kher bhawani, , Naranag ruins, Yousmarg, char-i-sharief, sharine of Shamas Faqir, Wular lake and Lolab valley. |
